Graceful steps and cozy, flowered carpet. Pearls and fancy necklaces. Girls wearing old style dresses with feathers caught in their hair and boys in suits with newsboy hats or even fedoras. The theme for the second social of GoetheMUN was the 20s, as some of the delegates made it obvious. Inside the Rin Grand Hotel, isolated from the outside world, we faked for a little while the elegance specific to the last century.

It lasted about one hour until the atmosphere faded. The main attraction of the party was the open bar, where members of the staff were trying to cope with the high demand for drinks. With no music around at the beginning, the delegates stopped playing their formal roles and start being more natural. Their teenager selves came out progressively, then all of a sudden, the music turned on and everybody started dancing. The first song had the rhythm of 20`s, as to reintroduce the aesthetic of the place. Then, a mix of all kinds of genres continued in the background, while random voices raised higher than the music to tell us things like “I am the best delegate of China” or “stop smoking on the inside”. “Rasputin” appeared to have a special place in the delegates` hearts, whose choreography inspired others to do the same. “Tel Aviv” awakened the Laude students at the party, and some “manele” made someone tell me that we all probably relate to “așa sunt zilele mele/una bună, zece rele”. Needless to say, the fatigue caused by the full day of work gradually chilled the party.

Soon, the dance ring was almost empty. Only a few friends were still dancing, hugging each other in a way that made think about the always-the-same vibe when, even if the committee sessions didn’t go as expected or technical problems kept us from enjoying the conference to the utmost, we can still enjoy each other`s company.
