The Opening Ceremony

Today, the 27th of September 2019, marks the beginning of the first edition of GoetheMUN. The delegates started arriving at the Spiru Haret University around 9AM in big groups, discussing this year’s debate subjects full of enthusiasm. At first glance, the atmosphere seemed relaxed, with fun music playing at the entrance, but once you passed the registration area, the atmosphere changes drastically. Staff members and organizers are all taking care of last minute logistic details. Many of the delegates were waiting at the doors of the amphitheater, the air being filled with anticipation. It was a pleasant surprise to see many of our school’s students reunited by this event. Photographers were placed strategically to capture all the moments. On the other side of the door, staff members were getting the room ready for the first general assembly of this event and two of the delegates were practicing for their musical moment.
Once the doors of the amphitheater opened, the delegates flooded the room, looking for their seats. As soon as everybody was inside and ready, the opening ceremony started. The deputy president, Dimi Dinculescu, officially welcomed everyone to the first edition of GoetheMUN. He opened the event by confessing his former doubts and his hoprd that the participants will not only perceive this MUN as a competition, but also as a social experience that will create many beautiful memories. The secretary general, Maria Elisa Niculescu, shared her experiences with previous MUNs and explained how she had the idea to create the GoetheMUN in collaboration with the Lauder student, Alessandra Voicu, the conference manager. She also thanked all the organizers and staff members for their effort of working on this project for a year. The deputy secretary general, Ilinca Andrei, also stated that the competition had a great start with over 100 applications in just two weeks.
Closing the first part of the ceremony, Briana Grigorescu and Luise Erena sang Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey.
